Artie Stevenson Smith

Artie Stevenson Smith, 67, of Gastonia, passed away November 3, 2015 at UNC Medical Center, Chapel Hill. He was born December 11, 1947, in Gaston County, son of the late Henry and Geneva Smith. Artie was a US Army Vietnam Veteran who was also a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was an avid reader, golfer, fisherman and enjoyed playing poker.Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Susan Snider Smith; son, Calvin Smith; daughters, Lori Carver and Cortney Smith; brothers, Michael and Gary Smith; sisters, Terri Poston, Barbara Summerlin, Debra Carroll, Detri Smith and Phyllis Braswell; grandsons, William and Ezra; puppies, Oreo and Bear. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Johnny Smith. A memorial service will be held 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 11, 2015, at the West Chapel of Greene Funeral Service, 216 Archie Whitesides Rd, officiated by the Rev. Charlie Bradley. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Salvation Army Christmas Fund, 107 S. Broad Street, Gastonia, NC 28052. Arrangements are with the West Chapel of Greene Funeral Service and Crematorium, Gastonia.
