Annie Irene Mauney

June 21, 1935 — October 11, 2017

Irene Meeks Mauney, 82, of Gastonia passed away Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at her residence.
She was born June 21, 1935 in Cornelia, Georgia, daughter of the late Charlie Henry Meeks and Lilly Simmons Meeks.
Irene worked at Wix Filters for 44 years.  She enjoyed visiting and catching up with former coworkers at frequent retiree parties.
She was an avid bowler, attending tournaments throughout the south and midwest.  She bowled for 45 + years in Wix Independent Bowling league.  She continued to bowl even after developing COPD.  When she had to stop bowling, she enjoyed going to visit her extended bowling family every year to deliver Easter eggs and Christmas candy.
She loved the Atlanta Braves and enjoyed a yearly visit to Atlanta, even going behind the scenes for tours and meeting current and former players.
After the death of her brother in 2012, she moved to Madison Place Senior Apartments, a warm and friendly community that she felt safe and secure.  Each year, she hosted an annual BBQ for all the residents.
Left to cherish her memories are daughter Donna Lynn St. Laurent and husband Brian; son, J. Scott Mauney and partner Robert Thacker; sister Betty Owensby Crotts; grandchildren Leslie Adair, Cassie Ward, Emily and Jacob St. Laurent.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her brother Frank Henry Meeks.
A celebration of her life will be scheduled at a later date.
