Anne Balthis Dalton

Anne Lewis Balthis Lyon Dalton, 96, passed away April 10th, 2017 at Courtland Terrace. Anne was born August 29, 1920 in Gastonia to Lewis Hall Balthis and Mary Fry Balthis. Anne graduated from Gastonia High School and Southern Seminary in Virginia, where she studied art. In 1939, she was a Maiden of the Cotton Court at the Grand Cotton Festival. After college, she worked as a model for Mayfair Modeling Agency in New York City and for many years at the Gaston Co. Health Dept. She was a talented singer and artist and sang on the radio and for the troops during World War II at the Gastonia Armory. Anne was a longtime and active member of All Saints Episcopal Church where she served with the Episcopal Church Women, altar guild, coffee hour, church yard sales and other ministries. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles Lyon and second husband John Dalton; by her sisters and brothers: Evelyn B. Cordes, Betty B. Higgins, Marion B. Cody, Peggy B. Williams, Frances B. Young, Polly B. Friday, Lewis Balthis and Billy Balthis; and stepson, Steve Dalton. She is survived by her daughter, Laurie Stewart and husband Dennis of Gastonia. Stepsons, Ken Dalton and wife Sabine of Woodland Park, CO; John Dalton and wife Joyce of Hilton Head, SC. Grandchildren: Charlie Stewart and wife Jamie of Mt. Holly; Nathan Dalton and wife Kristin of New Orleans, LA; Ben Dalton and wife Stephanie of San Diego, CA; Martin Dalton and wife Emily of Washington, DC; Chris Dalton of Columbia, SC; Daniel and Max Dalton of Denver, CO; Polly Bratyanski of Gastonia, and Michael Comiskey of Dover, DE.  Great-grandchildren: Adelee, Brooklynn and Cora Belle Stewart; Maddox and Marlo Dalton; Isabelle Dalton. Daughters-in-law, Tem Dalton and Barbara Dalton. Special niece, Randi Bratyanski, who was like a daughter to Anne. Many other nieces and nephews. A service to celebrate Anne's life will be held on Saturday, April 15th at 11:00 a.m. at All Saints Episcopal Church with the Rev. Dr. Gary Butterworth and Father Walter Bryan officiating. A reception in the church Family Life Center will follow the service and inurnment. The family would like to express heartfelt thanks and love to all the nurses, CNA's and staff at Courtland Terrace for their love and care of Anne for the past 2 ½ years. And also love and thanks to Father Gary Butterworth and Father Walter Bryan for the many times they brightened her days with their wonderful visits. Many thanks to the Gaston Hospice team for their care of Anne during her final days. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to All Saints Episcopal Church, 1201 S. New Hope Rd., Gastonia, NC 28054.
