Anna Sue Smith Stuart,78, of Gastonia, passed away on April 12, 2014 at Caromont Regional Medical Center. She was a native of Gaston County, daughter of the late David and Effie Smith, born on April 23, 1935. Anna retired from First Union National Bank after 30 years of service and was an active member of Chapel Grove Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years and actively participated in mission opportunities. Mrs. Stuart loved the Lord Jesus Christ and served him well all of her life. She was a prayer warrior and loved her family very much. Her smile was contagious and a reflection of the love of Jesus. Mrs. Stuart is survived by: her loving husband of 60 years, Ray Lewis Stuart; sons and daughter in-law, Jeffery Stuart, Michael (Tami) Stuart; daughter and son-in-law, Karen (Curtis) Brooks; grandson and his wife, Travis (Rachel) Stuart; granddaughters, Meredith Brooks and Mikayla Stuart; great grandchildren, Kalli, Wyatt, and Colton Stuart all of Gastonia; sister and brother-in-law. Irva (Joseph) Maddox of Venice, Fl; many beloved nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends 2:00- 3:45 pm on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at Chapel Grove Baptist Church. A service to celebrate her life will be held at 4:00 pm following the visitation , conducted by Rev. Roger Overton of Chapel Grove Baptist Church and Rev. Josh Glandon of Calvary Baptist Church. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by: sister, Ruth Shetley; brother, Ralph Slaughter.
