Allen Franklin Starrett

August 27, 1933 — April 4, 2017

Allen Franklin Starrett, 83, of Lowell, passed away April 4, 2017 at CaroMont Regional Medical Center.

He was born August 27, 1933, a native of Gaston County, the son of the late Mack Starrett and Edna Sherer Starrett.

Allen was a member of Lowell Smyre United Methodist Church and a veteran of the United States Navy.  He was on the Lowell City Council for eight consecutive years.  Allen also played softball with the McAdenville Reds.

Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife, Jean Rhom Starrett; children Vicki Jenkins, David Watkins, Beverly Gilbert, Ron Watkins and wife Kathy, Donnie Watkins and wife Donna; 8 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; sisters Shirley Pressley, Delores Lackey, Maxine Butler and husband Steve; sister-in-law Kyong Starrett and long-time special buddies, Larry Simonds and Grier Cobb.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Charles Starrett.

A memorial service, officiated by Pastor Rick Cloninger, will be held 2 pm Friday, April 7, 2017 at Greene Funeral Service- South Chapel 1503 S. York Rd., Gastonia.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lowell Smyre United Methodist, PO Box 304, Lowell, NC 28098.

Arrangements are with the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service and Crematorium, Gastonia.
