Alfred Smith Plyler, 77, of Gastonia, passed away Dec. 17, 2016, at the Robin Johnson Hospice House in Dallas.

He was born Dec. 7, 1939, in Union County, son of the late Fred and Pauline Plyler.

He was a U.S. Army veteran.

A memorial service will be held 4 p.m. Monday, Jan. 2, at Greene Funeral Service, South Chapel, 1503 S. York Road, Gastonia.
