Nellie Sue Camp

Nellie “Sue” Camp, 78, of Gastonia, passed away August 18, 2012 at Gaston  Memorial Hospital, Gastonia. She was born October 9, 1933 in Gaston County,  daughter of the late Woodrow Mitchell and Annie Raby White. Mrs. Camp was a   loving wife, mother, and grandmother.  She also was a member of Independent  Baptist Tabernacle of Dallas. A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Tuesday at  Independent Baptist Tabernacle in Dallas, NC, officiated by Pastor Ralph Carver  . The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the  service at the church. Interment will be at the church cemetery. She is survived  by: daughters, Debbie Williams and husband Jim, Lisa McGee and husband Keith,  Kim Dunlap and husband Tommy; brothers, Terriel Mitchell, David Mitchell, Roger

William Terry Johnson

William Terry Johnson, age 69, of Kings Mountain, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Friday, August 10, 2012 at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
A Gaston County native, he was born July 22, 1943, son of the late Quintman and Ruth Thornburg Johnson.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his grandson, Dalton Andrew Johnson.
Terry was a loving husband, father, and paw-paw who never met a stranger and left a legacy of compassion.
His heart belonged to God and he reached out to others.
He was a member of the First Assembly of God in Gastonia where he served many years as an usher and a greeter.
He was also a member of the Mountaineer Cruisers Car Club of Kings Mountain.
Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mary Johnson; son, Andy Johnson; daughter, Mandy Scoggins and husband, David; sister, Helen Johnson Barker, all of Kings Mountain; brother, Quint Johnson and wife, Linda of Florida; grandchildren, Allen Scoggins and wife, Amanda of Bessemer City, Summer Carroll, Sarah Scoggins, and Matthew Scoggins, all of Kings Mountain.
The family will receive friends from 6:00pm to 8:30pm Tuesday at First Assembly of God, 777 S. Myrtle School Rd., Gastonia.
The funeral service will be held 2:00pm Wednesday at the church, officiated by the Revs. James Allen and L. J. Barnes.

Brandon White

Brandon Lee White, age 17, of Bessemer City, passed away Friday, August 10, 2012 at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
A Gaston County Native, he was born May 31, 1995, son of Tammy Ellis White and the late Eddie D. White.
A funeral service, officiated by Rev. Dickie Spargo, will be held 3 pm, Tuesday, August 14, at Greene Funeral Service West Chapel, 216 Archie Whitesides Rd., Gastonia.

Larry "Barney" Barnes

 Larry "Barney" Barnes, age 61, of Whittier, NC, passed away Thursday, August 9, 2012 at West Care Medical Center in Sylva, NC.
A Gaston County native, he was born November 17, 1950, son of the late Buford Barnes and Minnie Guffey Nichols.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Barnes was preceded in death by his brother, Ray Franklin Barnes; and his great grandson, Matthew Pruitt.
Larry is survived by his wife of 35 years, Nancy Williams Barnes; sons, Scott Barnes and wife, Crystal, Shane Barnes and fiancée, Sharon Horn, Josh Barnes, Cliff Barnes and fiancée, Jamie Shaw; brother, Gene Barnes and wife, Darlene; sisters, Brenda Tignor, Louise McBee and husband, Pat, Helen Glisson and husband, David; grandchildren, Stephanie, Amberly, Trinity, Noah, Carmynn, and Ethan Barnes, Kassie, Miranda, and Brittney Horn; great-granddaughter, Lilly Pruitt.
A memorial service will be held 3:00pm Sunday at Fraley Memorial Baptist Church, 3025 Fraley Church Rd., Gastonia, officiated by Dr. Warner Doles, Rev. Lewis Crisp, and Rev. Hoyt Lucas.

Roger Lunsford

Roger Ellis Lunsford, 68, of  Mount Holly, passed away May 14, 2012, at his home. He was born April 12, 1944 in Gaston County, son of the late Aubrey Harold and Mary Adams Lunsford.  He was a member of Riverwood  Worship Center, Gastonia. He was a US Navy Veteran. A memorial service will be held  3:30 pm on Sunday at Riverwood Family Worship Center, Gastonia, officiated by Rev. Danny Hoell. The family will receive friends 3:00 -3:30 pm prior to the service on Sunday at the church. Interment is private. Mary Pauline Peeler, 85, of Lowell, passed away May 17, 2012, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
She was born January 22, 1927 in Gaston County, daughter of the late Edgar and Essie McKenzie McDaniel.

Rebecca "Becky" Gragg

Rebecca "Becky" Cabe Gragg, 65, of Gastonia, passed away May 17, 2012, at The Robin Johnson House, Dallas. She was born February 24, 1947 in Gaston County, daughter of the late Garland Wilson and Louise Adair Cabe. Ray Lowder

Ray Lowder, 85, of Gastonia, passed away May 17, 2012, at Carillon Asst. Living of Cramerton. 
He was born February 23, 1927 in  Gaston County, son of the late Thomas L. Lowder and Thelma Adams Lowder. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Gastonia and a member of Masonic Lodge #590 Lowell. He was a Yoeman in the US Navy, having served Oct. 1944 thru Oct. 1948, where he loved to box and was Fleet Champion in his weight class in boxing. He was formerly employed with Celanese for over 35 years. A funeral service will be held 1pm on Saturday at Trinity United Methodist Church, Gastonia,
officiated by Rev. Paul Brown. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. Interment will be at Gaston Memorial Park, Gastonia.

Laura Holland


Laura Elizabeth Bell Holland, 75, of Gastonia, passed away  May 17, 2012, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
She was born May 20, 1936 in Gaston County, daughter of the late Will W. and Julia Gill Bell.
Mrs. Holland was a member of Cramerton United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of Holbrook High School where she was a member of their Championship Women's Basketball Team.
A graveside and interment service will be 2:30 pm on  Sunday at Hollywood Cemetery, Gastonia, officiated by Rev. Bud Bell. The family will receive friends 1-2 pm on Sunday at Greene Funeral Service, South Chapel, 1503 S. York Rd, Gastonia.
She is survived by: her sons, Clarence "Burlon" Holland Jr. and wife, Teresa, Ronald Holland and girlfriend, Denise Hoyle; brothers, Don Bell and wife, Nancy, Bud Bell and wife, Mary Grace; grandchildren, Justin and Briana. Dewey Meek

Dewey Meek, age 69, of Kings Mountain, passed away Friday, May 18, 2012 at Kings Mountain Hospital.
He was born December 14, 1942, in Gastonia, son of the late Boyce and Isabelle Styles Meek.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Martha Ann Hass; and his daughter, Cheryl Young.
He was a veteran of the US Air Force and was retired from Carolina Energies in Shelby.
Mr. Meek is survived by his wife, Maxine Meek of the home; son; Michael Meek of Gastonia; daughters, Michele Nichols and husband, J.P., and, Monique Thomas and husband, Freddy, all of Cherryville; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 7:30 pm on Tuesday, May 22 at the West Chapel of Greene Funeral Service.
A graveside funeral service, officiated by Reverend Tim Ware, will be held 11am Wednesday, May 23 at Cleveland Memorial Park.
Interment will be at Cleveland Memorial Park.

Thomas Eugene Jones

Thomas Eugene Jones, 74, of Gastonia, passed away Saturday, May 19, 2012 at his residence.
A Gaston County native, he was born July 26, 1937, son of the late Van and Annie Mae Sutton Jones.
In addition to his parents, Thomas was preceded in death by his daughter, Terry Humphries; brother, Billy Jones; and his granddaughter, Tabitha Jones.
Mr. Jones is survived by his wife, Katherine Jones of the home; sons, Bobby Jones and wife, Brenda of Asheville, Curtis Jones and Scott Jones, both of Gastonia; daughters, Angela Mullins of Gastonia, Lori Scruggs and husband, Barry of Gastonia; brothers, Rev. David Eugene McGill Jr.

David Eugene McGill, Jr., 51, of  Kings Mountain, went to be with the Lord on May 21, 2012, at his home after battling cancer. He was born February 16, 1961 in Gaston County, son of the late David "Dean"  McGill Sr. A memorial service will be held 4pm on Friday at Greene Funeral Service, South Chapel, 1503 S. He was born March 14, 1928 in Greenville County, SC, son of the late Grover J. and Ethel Campbell Farmer. Mr. Farmer was a member of Piedmont Baptist Church. Richard Dean Maddox, Gastonia, passed away  May 23, 2012, at Gaston Memorial Hospital, Gastonia.
He was born July 2, 1931 in Gaston County, son of the late George Frank and Flossie Stowe Maddox.
Mr. Maddox was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Gastonia.

Edith Tipton Whidden

Edith Tipton Whidden, 89, of Bessemer City, passed away May 26, 2012, at White Oak Manor, Kings Mountain. She was born July 12, 1922, in Graham County, daughter of the late Noah and Mary Cole Tipton.  She was a member of Bessemer City Community Church. Doris Auten

Doris Campbell Auten, 93, of, Gastonia,  passed away May 22, 2012, at The Robin Johnson House, Dallas.
She was born July 8, 1918 in Lowndesville, SC, daughter of the late Ernest Fulton Campbell and
Cleo Wansley Campbell.  Mrs. Auten was a charter member of Ranlo Church of God, where she was a prayer warrior and had taught Sunday School classes. She was retired from Pharr Yarns after 36 years of service.
A funeral service will be held 2pm on Tuesday at Ranlo Church of God, officiated by Rev. Johnny Sawyer and Rev. Jack Ford. The family will receive friends 1-2 pm prior to the service on Tuesday at the church. Interment will be at Gaston Memorial Park, Gastonia.

Wilbert Warner

Wilbert LeRoy Warner, 74, of Iron Station, passed away May 24, 2012 at Palliative Care Ctr. and Hospice of Catawba, Newton, NC. He was born July 1, 1937 in Olympia, Washington, son of the late Chet and Ruth Warner. Mr. Warner was retired from the US Air Force, having served in Vietnam.

Ruth Sarvis Garrison, 88, of Belmont, passed away May 27, 2012, at Stanley Total Living Center, Stanley. She was born February 13, 1924, in Gaston County, daughter of the late William and Clara Smith Sarvis. Mrs. Garrison was member of the First Baptist Church of Cramerton. She was a founding member of the West Cramerton Baptist Church. She also was a member of the Eastern Star and the "Best Grandma ever". Steven Lee Canipe Davis, age 27, of Kings Mountain, passed away Friday, June 1, 2012 at Kings Mountain Hospice House.
He was born December 11, 1984, in Cleveland County, NC.

Naomi McSwain

Naomi McSwain, age 77, of Gastonia, passed away Saturday, June 02, 2012 at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
A Gaston County native, she was born March 8, 1935, daughter of the late William and Beatrice Leonard McKee.
In addition to her parents, Naomi was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Lewis McSwain; and her sister, Ruth Dunn.

James "Pat" Franklin Propst Sr.

James "Pat" Franklin Propst, Sr., age 80, of Gastonia, passed away Friday, June 1, 2012 at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
A Gaston County native, he was born March 1, 1932, son of the late Colonel Preston Propst, Sr. and the late Elmar Hill Propst.
He was a veteran of the US Army.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his brother, Colonel Preston Propst, Jr.

Janet Saunders

Janet Faye Saunders, 68, of  Gastonia, slipped the bonds of earth, put out her hands and touched the face of God on June 14, 2012, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
She was born June 11, 1944 in Gaston County, daughter of  Faye Jenkins Gulliford and the late, Billy C. Gulliford. Janet was a loving, charitable person, who enjoyed travel, reading and playing the piano for the residents of Morningside Assisted Living. Scrabble was her game of choice and Invictus, by William Ernest Henley was her favorite poem. She was a graduate of Frank L. Ashley High School, where she was an honor student.
A memorial service will be held 4:30 pm, on Monday at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 258 W. Franklin Blvd., Gastonia, officiated by Rev. Greg McIntyre. A reception will follow the service in the church fellowship hall. The family will receive friends other times at the home of the mother, Faye Gulliford, 3650 Union Rd., Gastonia. William R. "Bill" Robinson, 84, of Bessemer City, passed away June 3, 2012 at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
He was born December 27, 1927 in Honea Path, South Carolina son of the late Howard and Lilly Mae Moon Robinson.
Mr. Robinson was a retired Building Contractor who owned Edgewood Townhouse Apartments and Son Sound Recording Studios. He was a retired minister who had also written several books. "Bill" also served in the US Merchant Marines.

Robert Leo Braswell, 72, of Gastonia, passed away June 3, 2012 at Gaston Memorial Hospital.

Mr.Braswell was a member of Crowders Mountain Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He served with the US Army for 24 years as a medic.

Rickey Hoyle

Rickey Dean "Bubby" Hoyle , 57, of Bessemer City passed away on June 4, 2012 at The Robin Johnson House, Dallas. He was born March 17, 1955 in Gaston County son of William Arthur Hoyle and Wilma Ruth Reynolds Hoyle.
Rickey was a member of Bethea Methodist Church in Bessemer City. He was US Army veteran and an amateur gunsmith.

Thomas England

Thomas Woodward England, 88, of Kings Mountain , passed away  June 12, 2012, at Kings Mountain Hospice House, Kings Mountain.
He was born February 6, 1924 in Greenville County, SC son of the late Broadus Greenberry England and Jessie Ponnie Head  England.
Mr. England was a member of Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church, Kings Mountain. He was a very talented lead guitarist who performed at the Grand Ole Opry where he was a member. Thomas had a great love for children and a gift for storytelling.
A funeral service will be held 3:00pm on Thursday at Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church, 618 Chestnut Ridge Church Road, Kings Mountain, NC 28086 officiated by Rev. Greg Neely and Rev. Richard Brown. The family will receive friends 2:00 -3:00  at the church on Thursday.

Jamie Barrett

Jamie  R. Barrett, 40, of Gastonia passed away June 12, 2012 at The Robin Johnson Hospice House, Dallas. He was born October 30, 1971 in Orlando, Florida son of Kenneth Eugene Barrett and the late Norma Iris Oates .
Mr. Barrett was a member of Landmark Baptist Church, Gastonia. He loved to sing gospel music and had  been with the group Higher Ground for over 10 years. He loved to play the drums to honor the glory of God. Jamie loved his family and his church family.

Rebecca "Becky" Williams, 67, of Gastonia, passed away  June 16, 2012, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
She was born May 3, 1945 in Gaston County. Becky was a loving mother, grandmother,friend, inspiration to all she knew, and never met a stranger. She was a member of Long Creek Memorial Baptist Church, active participant in Relay for Life, Bessemer City and Co-chair for the Long Creek Kids Fishing Tournament. Lottie Etters, age 89, of Gastonia, passed away June 20, 2012 at her home.
She was born May 3, 1923 in Gaston County, daughter of the late Smiley Bruce and Laura Banks Campbell.

Mark Vance Goforth, 61, of  Gastonia, passed away June 19, 2012 at Gaston Memorial Hospital, Gastonia.

Jack Horner

Jack Horner, 71 went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday June 19, 2012. Born in Henryetta, Oklahoma. He is the son of the late Homer and Margarite Horner.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Horner; daughters, Vickie Tessener and husband Brian of Shelby, Kelly Howell and husband Brody; grandchildren, Toby, Tucker, Abagail and Hannah Howell of Ft. Jack was the General Manager of Norick Brothers Printing in Kings Mountain for 35 years. He was a Plant Manager for Law Printing in Oxnard, California and was retired from First National Bank of Shelby.

ruman L. Bitzel, 70, of  Clover, SC, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on June 21, 2012, at Magnolia Manor, Rock Hill, SC.
He was born April 8, 1942 in Wabash, Indiana, son of the late Orval L. and Marcella Cox Bitzel.
Mr. Bitzel was a member of Zion Baptist Church, Gastonia. He was retired from Wix/Dana Corp. after 36 years of service.

Wallace "Gene" Clemins

Wallace "Gene" Clemins, 67, of Gastonia, passed away June 22, 2012 at Gaston Memorial Hospital. He was born October 4, 1944 in McDowell County, WV, son of the late Beaty Eugene Clemins and Helen Fletcher Cleary. Mr. Clemins was a Private First Class in the US Army, where he served in Vietnam. Jill Braswell Mullinax, 61, of Cliffside, passed away June 23, 2012, at the Hospice of Rutherford County. Mr. Plemmons was of the Free Will Baptist faith.
A graveside  and intombment service will be held 1:30 pm on Thursday at the Gaston Memorial Park Mausoleum, Gastonia, officiated by Brother Ronnie Pressley. The family will receive friends after the service at the mausoleum.
He is survived by: his wife of 40 years, Linda Haney Plemmons of the home; sons, Larry Plemmons and Jimmy Plemmons both of Gastonia; daughters, Sharon Elaine Plemmons of Lowell, Christal Lowrance of Lake Wylie, Loretta, Deborah and Sheila Lowrance all of Gastonia; 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Ronald J. McNaught, 71, of Gastonia, passed away  June 20, 2012, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
He was born January 6, 1941 in Detroit, Michigan, son of the late John and Margaret McNaught.
Mr. McNaught attended New Testament Baptist Church.

Thelma Ferguson Rhyne, 92, of Dallas, passed away June 25, 2012 at Kindred Care & Rehab.,Gastonia.
She was born December 22, 1919 in  Gaston County, daughter of the late Zeb and Myrtle Jones Ferguson.
Mrs. Rhyne was a member of Love Memorial Baptist Church, Gastonia.

Mae R. Pasour, 90, of Dallas, passed away June 27, 2012, at Peak Resources of Gastonia.
She was born January 6, 1922 in Jackson County, GA, daughter of the late William McKinley Rochester and Elizabeth Jane Cunningham Rochester. Ruby Hope Smith

 Ruby Inez Hope Smith, age 88, of West Cramerton, passed away Friday, June 29, 2012 at Gaston Memorial Hospital.  A Gaston County native, she was born December 26, 1923, daughter of the late Silas and Eva Lineberger Hope.
Mrs. Smith was a pianist for over 60 years in the Church of God, working with her children and her husband, Virgil Smith, until his death.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Loretta Owens.  Ruby is survived by her son, Terry Smith of West Cramerton; daughters, Hope Grant and husband, Allen of Gastonia, Wanda Millsaps and husband, Eddie of Dallas, Patsy Laws and husband, Jerry of Ranlo; brother, Nelson Hope of West Cramerton; sisters, Rachel Simmons of Dallas, and Betty Stephens of Little Washington, NC; grandchildren, Pamela McBryde, Lisa Stephens, Mark and Karen Millsaps, Jordan and Abigail Grant; great-grandchildren, Joshua, Caleb, and Emma Stephens.  The family will receive friends Sunday, July 1, from 4 until 5:30pm at Greene Funeral Service, South Chapel, 1503 S. Diane Cooper Brooks

Diane Cooper Brooks, age 69, of Gastonia, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 30, 2012 at her home.  She was born January 7, 1943 in Cleveland County, daughter of the late Arthur and Selma Blanton Cooper.  Mrs. Brooks was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister who will be missed very much.
She was a member of Charity Independent Baptist Church in Gastonia.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Blondie Howard.  Diane is survived by her husband of over 52 years, Delmos L. Brooks; son, Ricky Brooks; daughter, Chrystal Turlington and husband, John; brother, Steve Cooper and wife, Brenda; sisters, Rita Cooper, Patsy Ball and husband, Wilbur; grandchildren, Ethan Brooks and Wesley Whitworth.  A funeral service will be held 11:00am on Tuesday, July 3, at Greene Funeral Service, South Chapel, 1503 S. Chad Allen Clayton

Chad Allen Clayton, age 44, of Gastonia, passed away Saturday, June 30, 2012 at Upstate Carolina Medical Center in Gaffney, SC.  He was born September 20, 1967 in Greenville, SC, son of Norma Haney Clayton and the late Allen Clayton.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, aunts, and uncles.  Chad is survived by his wife of 19 years, Crystal S. Clayton of the home; son, Eric Clayton of Cramerton; daughters, Ashley, Sarah, Emily, and Stephanie Clayton, and Angelia Badger, all of Gastonia; brother, Chuck Clayton and wife, Deidra of Blacksburg, SC; sister, Buffy Clayton Barber of Mt. Holly; good friends, Philip Sergeant and Barry Stamey; and many nieces and nephews.

Martha Lewis Clark

Martha Lewis Clark, 88, of Bessemer City, NC went on her final journey to join her family and Lord in Heaven on Tuesday, July 3, 2012.  She was a native of Gaston County and the daughter of the late James and Margaret Lineberger Lewis.  Martha was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Lincolnton where she loved to sing in the choir, teach Sunday school, and was a member of the women of the church and served on the church council.  Martha retired from AB Carter after twenty years of service.  She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, daughter, and sister. Rev. D.H. Lutz

Rev. D. H. Lutz, 81, of  Bessemer City, passed away July 5, 2012 at the Hospice House at Wendover in Shelby. He was born August 12, 1930 in Gaston County son of the late Ambrose Lester Lutz and Maggie Harmon Lutz.
Rev. Lutz was a retired United Methodist Church Minister who had served for  over 40 years throughout
Western North Carolina. He was a member of Bethea United Methodist Church in Bessemer City.
A celebration of life will be 2:00 on Sunday at Bethea United Methodist Church, Bessemer City officiated by Rev. Tony Greene and Rev. Frank Herman. The family will greet friends and family one hour prior to the  brief service at the church.

Sue Miller McSwain, 79, of Charlotte, passed away on July 6, 2012 at her home. She was born September 16, 1932 in Gaston County daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin and Essie Howard Miller. She was a Sunday School teacher, Sunday School secretary, member of the church choir, Director of the 49ers, member of the singles Sunday School class, and various other duties in the church. Sue loved her church and attended as long as her health permitted. Mr. Harmon was a veteran of the US Air Force.

Clarence Keith Wilson, 74, of Gastonia, passed away, July 11, 2012, at Gaston Memorial Hospital. Daniel Finger

Daniel Finger, age 57, of Kings Mountain, passed away Friday, July 13, 2012 at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
A Gaston County native, he was born September 25, 1954, son of the late William and Vassie Goodson Finger. Mr. Finger attended Eighth Street Church of God in Bessemer City. He was retired from the City of Gastonia after 30 years of service, worked at the Charlotte Douglas International Airport, and volunteered at B.R.E.A.D. Inc. Food Bank for eight years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers. Daniel is survived by his wife of over 24 years, Sandra Gibson Finger; sons, Mark Finger and wife, Shannon, David Finger and wife, Tracey, Billy Thornburg and wife, Robin, Shane Boggs, and Quenton Boggs; daughters, Angela Jarrell and husband, James, Brittany Boggs; sisters, Wanda Williams and husband, Bruce, Anita Shipman, and Libby Frady; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Haven Haney

Haven Devon "Puckett" Haney, age 50, of Lincolnton, passed away Saturday, July 14, 2012 surrounded by his family. A Gaston County native, he was born July 7, 1962, son of Judy Autry Haney of Gastonia and the late Johnny William Haney. Mr. Haney was of the Baptist faith. In addition to his father, Haven was preceded in death by his grandparents, Merm and Grace Haney, and Sam and Mildred Autry. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his loving wife, Patricia Kay Contreras of Lincolnton; son, Eric Devon Haney of Gastonia; stepson, Antonio Flores Contreras of Gastonia; nephew, Christopher Scott Loftin of Lincolnton; brother, Teddy William Haney of Gastonia; sister, Terri Lynn Bradley of Cherryville; and many loving uncles, aunts, nieces, and nephews. The family will receive friends Tuesday, July 17, from 2:30 until 4:00pm at Greene Funeral Service, South Chapel, 1503 S. York. Rd., Gastonia. Geral Lutz Sr.

Gerald Lee Lutz Sr., 70, of Kings Mountain passed July 14, 2012 at his home. He was born April 16, 1942 in Gaston County son of the Syvada Black Lutz and the late Avery Lutz.
Mr. Lutz was a member of Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church in Kings Mountain.
A memorial service will be held 3:00 pm on Thursday at Greene Funeral Service, West Chapel officiated by Rev. Roger Parson.

James Keith Mayne

James Keith Mayne, 41, of Gastonia, passed away July 15 2012 at his home. He was born April 3, 1971 in Gaston County, son of  Nancy Posey Mayne of the home and Michael Memphis Mayne of Dallas.
 Mr. Mayne attended Yorkwood Church of God, Gastonia.

Isabell Day

Isabell "Jingle"Day of Bessemer City passed away July 17, 2012 at the Kings Mountain Hospice House.
A native of Bessemer City she was the daughter of the late Claude and Carrie Harris.
Mrs Day was retired from Wix Corporation of Gastonia. She enjoyed doll making, playing bingo, painting and decorating cakes.
A funeral service will be 11:00am on Thursday at Greene Funeral Service, West Chapel officiated by Rev. Jody Griffin.

Hugh Gunthorpe Jr.

Hugh  Earl "Sonny" Gunthorpe Jr., 80, of Belmont, formerly of Charlotte, passed away, July 16, 2012, at Huntersville Oaks Rehabilitation Center, Huntersville, following a brief illness. He was born November 10, 1931 in Mecklenburg County, son of the late Hugh Earl Gunthorpe Sr. and Annie Mae Simpson Gunthorpe.
Sonny graduated from Berryhill High School in Charlotte, in 1950, where he was an all-star baseball and basketball player. In recent years, Sonny met every third Friday with other Berryhill High School alumni for breakfast. He began his machinist career at age 14 and continued to work in this industry for a lifetime. He started at Collins Machine Company and then moved on to Freeze Machine Company. In 1985, Sonny left Freeze and opened his own business, Industrial and Compressor Machine (ICM) shop in Charlotte. He worked there for the next 27 years until his illness took him away, never retiring even at the age of 80.
A graveside service will be held, at Noon on Friday at Forest Lawn West Cemetery, Charlotte, officiated by
Rev. Joe Denson. The family will receive friends 10-11:30 am prior to the service on Friday at Forest Lawn West Funeral Home, Charlotte.

Cathy Thomas Moore, 59, of Gastonia, passed away Monday, July 16, 2012, at Gaston Memorial Hospital. She was born October 11, 1952 in Gaston County, daughter of Lillian Thomasson Jarrard of Clover and the late Rufus Thomas. Mrs. Moore's children and grandchildren were the love of her life. James David Warren Sr.

James David Warren, 71, of Gastonia, passed away July 19, 2012 at Gaston Memorial Hospital.  He was born April 23, 1941 in Camden County, NJ, son of the late Harvey C. and Emma Brandschett Warren. Mr. Warren was a loving husband and father and will be greatly missed. He was a retired Chief of the US Navy and after his retirement, worked for and retired from the US Postal Service. James was a member of East Garrison Baptist Church, an amateur HAM radio operator and member of  a band called "The Hustlers" in the 60's. Brian Merritt

Brian Merritt, 67, of  Gastonia, passed away July 17, 2012, at Gaston Memorial Hospital, Gastonia. He was born July 29, 1944 in Johnson City, NY, son of the late Rolland Arthur and Mabel Specht Merritt. Mr. Merritt was retired from SUNY Binghamton in December of 2000, after 43 years of service. He served in the Armed Forces from 1967 to 1970. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the wonderful staff on the third floor of Gaston Memorial Hospital for their love and care.

John Charles Cloninger

John Charles Cloninger, 65, journeyed to heaven on July 26th 2012.  Johnny loved life.  He was happiest watching races, wrestling and being with his family. His family was his joy.  He was a devoted husband to Mary Jane Merrill Cloninger. He cherished his sisters: Dianne Johnson, Gayle Cloninger and Ann Love and her husband Jerry and nieces and nephews.   He was like a brother to Tish Merrill and John Flay Merrill Jr. He is preceded in death by his Parents Charles and Beulah Cloninger and John and Mary Merrill and his beloved pet Duke.

James Harley Allman

James Harley Allman, of Lowell, passed away August 6, 2012 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, as a result of a car accident. He was born  August 30, 1990 in Gaston County and would have turned 22 on August 30 this year.  Harley was a caring and loving son, a protective brother and a good friend who was taken from this world all too soon. He was a hard working lineman, following in his father's footsteps. He enjoyed riding dirt bikes, fishing and pickin on his younger sister.

Raymond  Doster Jr. , 84 of  Gastonia  passed away on July 27, 2012 at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
He was born July 6, 1928 in Ellenboro, North Carolina son of the late Raymond Doster Sr. and Fola Greene Doster.
A funeral service will be held 3:00pm on Sunday at New Testament Church of The Firstborn , 1508 Hargrove Ave., Gastonia, officiated by son, Donnie Doster. The family will receive friends 6:00 -8:00 on Saturday at Greene Funeral Service, West Chapel, Gastonia.

Judson Tripp Lindsay

Judson Tripp Lindsay, age 32, of Myrtle Beach, SC, formerly of Clover, SC, passed away Tuesday, July 24, 2012.
He was born March 5, 1980, son of Odell and Glenda Tripp Lindsay of Clover.
Mr. Lindsay was a 2002 graduate of the Citadel, a member of the Myrtle Beach Alumni Association of the Citadel, proud owner of the Citadel Mascot "Boo" X, and a member of the Church of God.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Eugene and Viva Tripp and paternal grandfather, William O. Lindsay.
In addition to his parents, Judson is survived by his wife Jamie Yates Lindsay of the home; loving brother, Bill Lindsay and wife, Sarah; nephews, Ethan and Gavin Lindsay, all of Naples, Fla.; and paternal grandmother, Dorothy Lindsay.
The family will receive friends Sunday, July 29, from 2 to 3 pm at South Gastonia Church of God, 310 Carolina Ave., Gastonia.

Larry Pressley

Larry Lewis Pressley, 76, of  Gastonia, passed away July 31, 2012, at his home.
He was born February 24, 1936 in Gaston County, son of the late Frank Pressley and Thelma Hoffman Smith. Mr. Pressley was a US Marine Korean War Veteran, avid fisherman and a member of the Wildlife Club.
A memorial service will be held 5 pm on Saturday at Maranatha Baptist Church, Dallas, NC, officiated by Pastor Chris Doster. The family will receive friends 4-5 pm on Saturday prior to the service at the church.
Interment is private.

Brian Merritt

Brian Merritt, 67, of  Gastonia, passed away July 17, 2012, at Gaston Memorial Hospital, Gastonia. He was born July 29, 1944 in Johnson City, NY, son of the late Rolland Arthur and Mabel Specht Merritt. Mr. Merritt was retired from SUNY Binghamton in December of 2000, after 43 years of service. He served in the Armed Forces from 1967 to 1970. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the wonderful staff on the third floor of Gaston Memorial Hospital for their love and care.

William Jerry Humpries

William "Jerry" Humphries Sr.,  went to see Jesus on August 1, 2012.
 He was born February 8, 1942 in Taylorsville, NC son of the  late William Clemmie and Eva Joy Humphries.
Mr. Humphries was the owner of Humphries Textile Parts for 40 years. He was a member of Holland Memorial Lodge # 668.
The family would like to thank the staff of the 5th floor at Gaston Memorial Hospital and a special thank you to Dr. Harpreet Bhalla for his wonderful care and friendship.

Hazel Jeannette Jolley, 85, of Bessemer City passed away on August 1, 2012 at her home.

June Coleman

June  Moss  Coleman, 52, of Kings Mountain went home to be with the Lord  on August 7, 2012 with her family by her side.
She was born September 1, 1959 in Cleveland County daughter of the late Palmer Glenn Moss Sr. and Helen Boheler Moss.
Mrs. Coleman was member of Midview Baptist Church in Kings Mountain. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and her grandchildren were the apple of her eye. June loved the Lord,  and held tight to her faith. She was a good hearted person ,who was good as gold to everyone. She had a wonderful sense of humor and a contagious smile.She was a very giving and selfless person. She was a licensed cosmetologist.
A funeral service will be held 4:00 pm on Friday at Greene Funeral Service, West Chapel officiated by Pastor Michael Daughrity and Pastor Oscar Hullender.
The family will receive friends 2:30 - 4:00 on Friday at the funeral home.

Emerson "Doc" Bushnell Jr., 86, of Stanley, passed away August 14, 2012, at Alexandria Place, Gastonia.

He served as an Usher for 25 years at First United Methodist Church, Cape Coral, FL. Emerson was a US Air Force WWII Veteran.

Harold McArthur Bragg

Harold McArthur Bragg, 70, of Gastonia, passed away August 17, 2012, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
He was born May 3, 1942 in Raleigh County, WV, son of the late Tommy and Roxie Garrett Bragg.
Mr. Bragg was a loving husband, father, grandfather and uncle. He was an Army Veteran serving in the Signal Corp., an avid bowler and car enthusiast.

Hubert C. "Butch" Jenkins Sr.

Hubert C. "Butch" Jenkins Sr., 71, of Gastonia, passed away  August 21, 2012, at The Robin Johnson House, Dallas. He was born April 7, 1941 in Gaston County, son of the late Will Jenkins and Bernice Ramsey Smith. Mr. Jenkins was a man who loved his family and the Lord, who he is now with in Heaven. He was a member of the Union Road Church of God and was active in the Church of God, Men & Women of Action for over 10 years. Butch was active in his church where he maintained the facilities and served as a Sunday School Teacher.  In his earlier years, he was a Pastor who planted and pastored various churches.
A memorial service will be held 4 pm on Saturday at the old santuary of Union Road Church of God, Gastonia, officiated by Rev. Lane Lavender. The family will receive friends 2-4 pm prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
Interment is private.  He is survived by: his loving wife of 34 years, Eva Jenkins of the home; sons, Hubert "Butch" Jenkins Jr. and wife, Kandie of Mt. Harold Glenn Huffstetler, 74, of Gastonia, passed away August 23, 2012, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
He was born November 14, 1937 in Gaston County, son of the late James Stacy and Janie Barnes Huffstetler. Mr. Huffstetler was a member of Linden ARP Church, Gastonia, where he served as an Elder, Deacon and Trustee. He was retired from ABF as a long line driver. Harold was a graduate of Ashley High School and Western Carolina College.
A memorial service will be held 2 pm on Saturday at Linden ARP Church, Gastonia, officiated by Rev. Michael Lineberger. The family will receive friends after the service on Saturday in the church fellowship hall. A private interment will be held on Monday, August 27, 2012.
He is survived by: his wife, Betty McAbee Huffstetler of the home; daughter, Donna Huffstetler Jenkins and husband, David of Creedmoor, NC; brother, Brice Huffstetler; grandchildren, Henry, Rhys and Sarah.

Hattie Horne

“Mama Horne”, age 104, formerly of Bessemer City, passed away Thursday, August  23,  2012.
She was born July 21, 1908 in Talbott, TN, to the late George M. and Rose Zena  Medlin Maddox.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George H.  Horne; daughters and son-in-law, Peggy H. Costner, Marion H. and Bain  Lingerfeldt; son, Gene Horne; brothers, George, John, Walter, Arlie, and Bennie  Maddox; sisters, Jesse Fralix and Ida Mae Heafner; and grandson, Mike Horne.
Mama Horne is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Ralph and Joyce Horne  of Granite Quarry,  Dr. Nelson Horne of Sarasota, FL, Louis and Shirley Horne of Salisbury;  son-in-law, Dr. Bill Costner of Bessemer City; daughter-in-law, Judy Horne of   Kings Mountain; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and five great-great   grandchildren.  She spent many years enjoying what she loved to do most – cooking, gardening,   and spoiling her grandkids. At the young age of 92, “Mama Horne” moved to
Charlotte to live with her granddaughter and husband, Chris and Ron Stalcup.  Mama attributed her long life to “the good Lord”, her dog Chang-Lee, to all her  children, grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren, and her daily  Crystal Light-cider cocktail.
A funeral service, officiated by Reverend Oscar J. Stalcup Jr., will be held 4pm  Thursday at the West Chapel of Greene Funeral Service, 216 Archie Whitesides  Rd., Gastonia.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the  service on Thursday.
Interment will be at Westview Gardens, Bessemer City.

He was born October 1, 1929 in Murphy, NC, son of the late Carl and Azlee Dockery Gaddis.
Mr. Gaddis was owner and manager of Gaddis Upholstery Shop for over 40 years. Arden was a member of Temple Baptist Church, Gastonia.  He was a proficient horseman, trainer and enjoyed riding for pleasure.

Harold Glenn Dunaway

Harold Glenn Dunaway, age 78, passed away September 3, 2012, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
He was born October 7, 1933 in Mecklenburg County, son of the late Henry Glenn and Edith Mae Thomas Dunaway. Mr. Dunaway was a US Air Force Korean War Veteran and a Masonic Lodge #369 member. He was known as a local dirt track race car driver legend. He drove in the Grand National and Grand Touring Series and later in life, built and drove sprint cars in the Dixie Outlaw Sprint Car Series. Harold was a man who lived life to the fullest, being an avid outdoorsman,fisherman, private pilot and a certified scuba diver.   Most of all he was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and hero to his family, who will be missed very dearly by them.

William "Bill" Lord Jr., 75, passed away September 7, 2012 at his home. He was born December 15, 1936 in Kings County, NY, son of the late William H. Lord Sr. and Jane Whitehead Izzo.A funeral service will be held 11:00 am Thursday at Victory Hill Baptist Church, 2300 Philadelphia Church Road Dallas, NC 28034. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service at the VA National Cemetery, Salisbury.  Mr. Lord was a member of Victory Hill Baptist Church in Dallas. He is survived by: his loving wife of 30 years, Elizabeth Lord; sons, Patrick Lord of Asheville, David Lord of Gastonia; daughters, Virginia Lord of NY, Lori Lord spouse Emil Herman of LA, Jane Cureton and spouse Andrew of AR, Kathleen Lyon and spouse Matthew of MD, Dorothy Cape and spouse Joseph of Gastonia, Kristi Nothstein and spouse Jonathan of KY; brother, Richard Lord and spouse Rose of PA; 21 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren. Cecil James Everette Fields, 46, passed away  September 11, 2012, at The Robin Johnson Hospice House, Dallas. He was born September 10, 1966 in Gaston County, son of Horace Pete and Sarah "Frances"  Hendricks McDaniel. Mr. Fields was a member of Chapel Grove Baptist Church, Gastonia. He was a jack of all trades and master technician at Sears. He was a graduate of Hunter Huss High School class of 1984.
A funeral service will be held 2 pm on Friday at Chapel Grove Baptist Church, Gastonia, officiated by
Pastor Roger Overton. The family will receive friends 7-9 pm on Thursday at the church. Interment will be at Hillcrest Gardens, Mt. Holly.
He is survived by: his wife Teresa "Jill" Summitt Fields; sons, Cecil Aaron James Fields, Daniel Lindsey Fields, Jordan Lewis Fields; brother, David Fields and wife, Lisa; sisters, Jackie Conder and husband, Mark, Missy Hale.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Denny Fields.

Dennis Dale Williams

Dennis Dale Williams, age 72, passed away Monday, September 10, 2012, at Gaston Memorial Hospital, Gastonia. He was born February 2, 1940 in Gaston County, son of the late Fonte Leroy and Helen Lazenby Williams. Mr. Williams was a retired owner of Williams Automotive for thirty plus years. He was a long time member of Charlotte Moose Lodge #1113 where he was past Governor and Administrator. Dennis was an avid NASCAR fan, master engine builder and competitor in the racing field.
A celebration of his life will be held 6 pm on Friday at Charlotte Moose Lodge #1113, officiated by Rev. James Wilbanks and Pastor Troy Beaver. The family will receive friends after the service at the lodge. He is survived by: his loving wife of forty two years, Diane Scott Williams; sons, Robert Dale Williams and wife, Rhonda of Mint Hill, Kevin Scott Williams and fiancee`, Lorie Armstrong of Denver, NC, Joshua Parks Williams and wife, Maria of Mount Holly; daughters, Trina Lafftery of Greer, SC, Lisa Crotts and husband, Jessie of Cherryville; numerous special grandkids and great grandkids; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by: daughters, Teresa and Tammy Williams; brother, Danny Williams; sister, Wanda Wilbanks.

Richard Anthony Lazenby

Richard Anthony "Dickie"  Lazenby, 72, passed away  September 10, 2012, at Gaston Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He was born September 15, 1939 in Gaston County, son of the late, William Kenneth Lazenby and Ethel Payseur.  Mr. Lazenby was a member of Crowders Mountain Baptist Church, where he played the bass and acoustic guitars. A lover of music, Lazenby shared much of his time with his wife Deborah, listening to his favorite bluegrass and southern gospel artists.
The family will receive friends 6-8 pm on Thursday at Crowders Mountain Baptist Church, 125 Mayberry Lane, Kings Mountain.
He is survived by: his wife, Deborah Hall Lazenby; stepson, Davey Goble and wife, Leah Goble; stepdaughter, Michelle Goble; grandchildren, Noah and Elijah Goble; brother, Larry Lazenby; sister and brother in-law, Myrna and Curtis Boyter; brother and sister in-law, Michael and Terry Lazenby; numerous nieces and nephews.

Clinton Graham

Clinton "Balt" O. Graham, 48, of Morrisville , NC passed away on September 11, 2012 at Duke University Hospital, Durham, NC.
He was born August 30, 1964 in Baltimore, MD son of Estelle Sawetsky Graham and the late Hugh Clinton Graham.
In addition to his father he was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Graham.
Clinton was a loving Son, Father, Pawpaw and friend. He was a 1983 graduate of Kings Mountain High School where he was a member of the football and wrestling team. Mr. Graham  was a devoted employee who had worked for over 20 years with ABF as a truck driver, dock worker and shop steward and was a union member  of Local #391. He was  of Baptist Faith and an avid Colts fan.
A funeral service will be held 4:00 pm on Friday at Greene Funeral Service, West Chapel, Gastonia officiated by Rev. Odas Shelton. The family will receive friends 6:00 - 8:00 on Thursday at the funeral home and at other times at the home of Pete and Larice Cook, 302 Stowe Acres, Kings Mountain
Interment will be at Mountain Rest Cemetery, Kings Mountain.
In addition to his mother Mr. Graham is survived by; daughter and son in-law Joni and Daniel Barnes of Kings Mountain; father in-law and mother in-law Pete and Larice Cook of Kings Mountain; sister in-law and brother in-law Candy and Jonathan Chapman of Kings Mountain,; brother, David Graham of Kings Mountain; sister, Janie Graham of Crowders Mountain; grandchildren, Kody Tyler Graham, Jeremy Logan  Farmer; nephews, Joseph Chapman, Chuck Barber, Blake Chapman, Christopher Graham; niece, April Hanvy.
Pallbearers for the service will be Daniel Barnes, Jonathan Chapman, Joseph Chapman, Blake Chapman, Chuck Merck, Todd Keener and Kody Graham.

Flotella Laws Tilley, 87, passed away  September 13, 2012, at her home.  She was born May 21, 1925 in Newport, TN, daughter of the late L.D. and Nancy Ann Laws. Mrs. Tilley was retired from Victory Mill, Gastonia. 
A funeral service will be held 1 pm on Saturday at Ranlo Free Will Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Mike Wilson and Rev. Jason Carson. The family will receive friends 6:30 - 8:30 on Friday at the church. Interment will be at Gaston Memorial Park, Gastonia.
She is sruvived by: sons, Bill Tilley and wife, Dale, Michael "Tiny" Tilley; daughters, Shirley Walker and husband, Jerry, Judy Waters and husband, Ronnie, Darlene Wall; brother, Ed Laws; nine grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, six great great grandchildren.
